it’s time to quiet that inner critic.
EMDR Therapy for Women in MN & WI
You’re starting to wonder if what you experienced might actually be trauma…
Maybe you look like you’ve got it all figured out, successful or just managing well.
But inside you feel like you’re falling apart, you feel stuck.
Maybe you’ve done therapy before. Maybe you can put words to the reasons you feel the way you do.
But knowing hasn’t translated into relief.
Trauma doesn’t always come from one defining event. Sometimes it lives in chronic stress, relational wounds, spiritual confusion, or years of needing to be the strong one.
You’re ready to heal the root experiences that taught you you’re not enough.
How therapy works
You can create new ways of moving through
the world - that don’t require MORE of you.
Sometimes traits that have been strengths (like high levels of responsibility, being liked, grit and determination, strong work ethic, dependibility) can have a unhelpful side (difficulty holding boundaries, taking on too much, people-pleasing, disconnection with emotions, overworking)
Maybe you needed those positive skills to get your needs met, but now they’re taking on a life of their own.
With trauma therapy, instead of asking, “what’s wrong with me?” We ask, “What did this part of me need to learn in order to get through?”
I have the highest level of training and certification available for EMDR therapists with years of experience applying it with clients who have a sense that what they’ve been through might be keeping them stuck in unhelpful patterns. I’ve found EMDR to be the most helpful tool to help clients resolve issues that have been plaguing them for years.
EMDR is an active reprocessing method that helps your brain develop new connections allowing you to create new patterns of being. You can:
move from reacting to choosing a response
stop spinning and over-analyzing and decide to let it go
release insecurity and develop a sense of trust in yourself
EMDR therapy clients have said things like…
“I don’t over-analyze anymore.”
“I feel like I finally understand why I have the reactions I do, now I can choose what to do with that.”
“I never thought I’d be able to let [specific fear] stop dictating my life.”
“I’m kinder to myself now.”

FAQs

Absolutely! There has been a lot of research done on it’s effectiveness and it’s been found to be 80-94% effective for single-incident trauma. This is partly due to EMDR’s “bottom up” approach. Meaning it focuses on calming the body’s stress response and nervous system while reprocessing painful memories rather than working on making sense of experiences and changing thought patterns. That’s something we’ll figure out together. You don’t have to have experienced “big trauma” for your brain and nervous system to be holding the effects of something that may have been too much or happened too fast for it fully process the experience. Signs of trauma can be easy to identify (like being easily startled, avoidance of places or people, intrusive graphic memories, or dissociation) or more subtle (like difficulty sleeping, intrusive thoughts, negative self-talk, over or under-functioning). Together we can identify what you’re experiencing and what to do about it.
